Compare Oracle SQL Training Courses

What is SQL?

SQL is Structured Query Language, pronounced 'sequel' or by its letters, SQL is a language specifically written for Users, Developers and Administrators to communicate with a Database. SQL can be used for querying records from the Database, inserting and updating records as well as creating objects. Objects can be as simple as Tables, Views or Sequences, or as sophisticated as the Database itself.

By its very name, its structure is very formalised and has strict programming conventions, its syntax will seem pretty unforgiving to the User attempting to learn the SQL language without proper guidance and training.

Essential Oracle 9i SQL Up

Structure

As the name applies, this course provides Delegates with SQL knowledge to be productive in a 9i Oracle environment straight away. The course assumes no prior knowledge of using SQL and takes the Delegate gradually through the topics. The course is two days duration.

The focus of day one is the "Select" statement, starting with the basic structure, this is followed with a section on using Oracle functions to manipulate the output of the data and aliases to format the headings.

Where clauses are then introduced to filter records, the Delegate having an exercise to practise all of the major operators such as equals, in, like etc ....

Finally on day one, the Delegate will learn to join tables together using both Ansi SQL 1986 and Ansi SQL 1999 syntax, before this use of indexing and foreign keys is examined and explained.

Day Two begins with the complex reporting functions such as First_Value, Width_Bucket etc, then the rest of the day concentrates on creating tables and inserting records into them, including a section of good indexing strategy.

This is a one day course primarily aimed at delegates who need to perform queries from an Oracle database without ever needing to create tables, indexes or insert data, it will be assumed that the delegates have no prior knowledge of SQL before joining the course.

Where clauses are then introduced to filter records, the Delegate having an exercise to practise all of the major operators such as equals, in, like etc .... Aggregating values are introduced with exercises using functions such as Count, Sum etc ...

Finally the Delegate will learn to join tables together using both Ansi SQL 1986 and Ansi SQL 1999 syntax, before this use of indexing and foreign keys is examined and explained.
